Leonie Rysanek and Astrid Varnay in Elektra
I watched again this extraordinary film directed by Götz Friedrich on the tragedy of Elektra, composed by Richard Strauss, and wanted to add a scene where Elektra (Leonie Rysanek) things to be stronger than her mother, Klytämnastra (Astrid Varnay) and vows revenge on the murder of her father. The parts change when Klytämnastra is told that Orest, Elektra's brother and Klymtämnestra's son, has died.
The orchestra was conducted by 86-year old maestro Karl Böhm. He died very soon after this project. This production is available on DVD with a bonus material including a very interesting document on making of the movie. This is one of the best opera movies I have ever seen. The greatest opera movie directors were Friedrich and Ponnelle, as far as I know.

Interesting is that Varnay didn't like the interpretation Friedrich wanted. She felt Klytemnestra should have some vestiges of beauty. She said when she sang Elektra she was right. When she sang Klytemnestra she was right..She wrote the thing -about greek tragedy id that everyone.is right and eberyone is wrong.

Maravillosa interpretación, a mi parecer la mejor. Ahora, me parece interesante, dentro de esta hermosa versión dirigida por Harnoncourt en lo musical y por Ponelle en lo visual, la manera como éste último eligió colocar al personaje. Se supone que el aria está dirigida al personaje de Sifare. Sin embargo, Ponelle ha pedido a Kenny mirar hacia la cámara, como si el aria fuera cantada, en todo nivel y sentido, para nosotros los espectadores. ¿Alguien tiene idea de por qué? Buena noche.

Breathtaking performance. The soloists of the highest quality assembled for this performance. Hard to imagine getting all these operatic superstars together and they sing so well together: no one grandstanding just perfect ensemble singing.
